If you wish to obtain employment in the sale of liquor or you have employees involved in the sale of liquor, you are required to complete the RSA. The course involves understanding the legalities & responsibilities of supplying, selling and serving alcohol, facts about alcohol, monitoring the premises and examples for harm minimisation when dealing with alcohol related issues

Other important information before starting:

  1. A good understanding of written and spoken English is required to undertake this course
  2. Trainers & Assessors are available to provide assistance to RSA Online students by calling 02 9125 5111 Monday to Friday from 9:00am -5:00pm. General enquiries are also welcome in this time.
  3. The verification of enrolment information including USI and photo ID is completed during office hours. If you commence your course over the weekend, you will need to wait until the next business day to access the learning and assessment resources.
  4. During our course enrolment process you will be asked to provide your USI - or if you don't already have one, we will help you through the process of applying for your USI online. It is essential that the details you provide when applying for your USI match with the details and primary ID that you provide to us when you enrol for our Online RSA. This is because these details must match for your statement of attainment to be validated by the government system, otherwise this may cause issues with the validity of your qualification.
  5. Please note that personal information on our enrolment form captures data that is required to create your competency card. As such please be aware that this is used and shared with L&GNSW.
  6. You have 30 days from the date of your account being created to complete your course work. After this time your account will be suspended and you will need to re-enrol into the course again. You may access your course as many times as needed during your enrolment period.
  7. During this course and in order to validate the identity of the student for whom the final certificate will be issued, L&GNSW require the provider to assure the identity of the student. Please be aware that as part of our enrolment process you will be required to provide Photo ID. Before commencing each new video task, you will be prompted to hold your Photo ID up to the webcam in order to match.

Do you already have a competency card?

If your Competency Card has expired within the last 28 days, DO NOT enrol in this course.

Students who hold a competency card that is due to expire shortly (or within 28 days of expiry) are not expected to complete a full RSA training, instead they are required to complete the online refresher training administered by L&GNSW.

L&GNSW provide a 28-day grace period in which to renew your RSA qualification by completing the online refresher training. If your Competency Card expiry falls outside the 28-day grace period, you will be required to complete a full RSA training.

If you have already been issued with an interim certificate or competency card within the last 5 years, PLEASE REVIEW the following information provided by L&G NSW here.

What happens if my Interim Certificate is expired?

Where a student holds an expired Interim Certificate, Liquor and Gaming NSW deem your RSA competency to still be valid. The ATP Portal does not allow a second Interim Certificate to be issued. You can still apply for your Competency Card with an expired interim certificate. The Competency Card expiry date will be post-dated five years from the date the Interim Certificate was issued.

What happens if I already hold a competency card and undertake a second RSA training course? Am I issued a new competency card? Is the expiry date on the current competency card extended?

Note: Completing a full course through an approved training provider prior to the expiry of your or Competency Card will not extend the expiry date on your current card.

I have completed my RSA in another state.

If you have completed an RSA course in another state, you may be eligible to complete a bridging course: Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) – Liquor & Gaming NSW
